A lot of people enjoy living in denial about their health habits. Does this sound like you? Perhaps you are young and think eating all that junk food now and sitting on the couch all day won’t come back to haunt you. You think, “I’ll just worry about that stuff when I get older when it will matter more”. But trust me, it matters right now. How do I know this? Because I was once a smoking, sedentary, junk food addicted American stereotype myself. Although I’m a health nut now, I’m still feeling the effects of my past lifestyle, years later.
Making the decision to start living a healthier lifestyle right now is one of the best decisions you will ever make; doing so will add years to your life and you will feel so much better. If you are currently living in an unhealthy body, you are probably used to the ill effects by now. Once you take the healthy leap and decide to eat better and exercise more, you will feel the boost in energy, confidence, happiness (etc, etc) in a matter of months, if not weeks. Your body will reward you for treating it right.
It can be tough to start the journey of living a truly healthy lifestyle, but it is not impossible my friend. The only thing holding you back is you. However, before you jump right in you should know that dramatic changes are detrimental to the process. You do not want to push yourself too much in the beginning more than you can handle and end up dropping the idea altogether. That is why it is always suggested that you should make small, gradual changes to your daily lifestyle habits.
So don’t drop all that junk food you are addicted to all at once. Start by supplementing what you eat with healthier foods. After that, gradually hone down on the negative things you put into your body. But remember, if you don’t want to give up the junky’ foods you love, that is okay. Just try to focus on putting some good things in your body as well, and remember to use moderation with the bad. A little of good is better than nothing but bad.
Exercise however, is what you should truly focus your efforts on. But again, gradual change is the key to this as well. There is a saying that says it is better to eat badly and exercise than it is to eat well and not exercise at all. Think of it this way, if you don’t get your juices flowing, your stagnant body will build up unhealthiness just like a stagnant bathtub of water, if left alone to collect dust and build up mold & bacteria and such, will become filthy; a constantly flowing river on the other hand, stays clean and fresh and avoids building up junk from stagnation. Get your blood flowing and start exercising that heart!
Starting the journey can be the hardest part, but once you make it routine it becomes easier and easier. And once you feel all the positive effects of exercising and eating better, it actually becomes hard to stop!
